Upon opening my current project file, AC reports:
Invalid elements were found in this project!
and
The errors were successfully fixed by Archicad
It 'fixed' whatever the problem was by deleting the stairs from my project (!)
It had taken me quite some time to get those stairs right. Now it looks like I have to do the work all over again.
Am I missing something?

Is it a fairly standard stair or is it a bit fancy?
It sounds like this may be a file that you want to sent to your local Archicad support, to see if they can spot the problem.
Or maybe 'open & repair' the file in 27 and then open in 28.
Might be worth a try.

As i said in my first post 'open & repair' doesn't repair anything in this case, and result in the exact same message.
The stair deleted is a simple swinging staircase.
I now thing that the problem came from a change in the way Archicad generate stairs in the last Archicad 27 update and in Archicad 28.
But my main concern is the way Archicad handles such cases modifying or deleting elements without any possibility for us to make any corrections.

And to confirm that the problem came from Archicad last update, I install the Archicad 27 - 3001 older version and the project file opens without any error message and with the stair.

'Open & Repair' didn't help in my case, either. Multiple project files. In one it was the staircase. In another it was a selection of splines. I even got the local reseller involved, who ran whatever test they saw fit, to no avail.
Yes, I agree that it is abysmal performance.

So I've dowloaded and installed the last Archicad 27.0.3 Hotfix and opened the file both with the "open" and the "open & repair" commands.
The result are the same, Stairs were deleted.
I then duplicate the file, open one with the Archicad 27-3001 version ( the stairs are there) and the copy with the 27.0.3 version (the stairs are deleted).
Then I copy the stairs from the first file and past them in the copy, stairs are there with no error message.
I then close the copy and reopen it no more error message nor deleted stairs.
So questions are :
1 - Why does the "open" or the "open & repair" commands delete the stairs that were copied and pasted without any error ?
2 - Why does those commands be able to end up in deleting elements without any detailed log of what could be the problem nor any possibility to try to correct it.
Copying and pasting the elements is not a solution as for example cotation points associated with the element would be lost, so you to schecked and correct cotations of those elements in every views where they are dispayed.
