Why doesn't the fills slab symbol connect, what settings should be changed?

The Plan Symbol Fill Background Pen field should be set to "Transparent" like you can see on the right Door below. You want to turn on the "USE FILLS" toggle because that controls the display of other Fills as well and you probably want the Door Frame and Door Leaf to cover the Slab's Fill Pattern.
