The network is a 100 mb Ehternet with G4 and G5s on OS 10.3 and 10.4. The server is OS 10.3.9 using AFP over IP and the data is stored on an xRAID [whatever all of that means].
Anybody else had this big problem?

This was added in build 2172. Apparently long file names were causing some kind of problem somewhere,
Gee, instead of fixing the bug, let's just outlaw long file names and break even more stuff....

What happens when you open with 2172 or a future version a PLN or LBK created with the old version, which is in a project folder with more than 27 characters?
If you change the project folder name you need to relink all your hotlinks, Plotmaker drawings, and libraries. If you keep the old longer-than-27-and-therefore-now-unreadable folder name, do ArchiCAD and BGArchiCAD and Plotmaker still read all the paths somehow?

So I was wondering if Plotmaker, ArchiCAD and BGArchiCAD somehow manage to keep the paths by somehow cropping the folder name internally, or if they will be giving me missing or deleted objects and drawings and hotlinks all over the place because they just ignore the 27+ character folder.

I just had a quick look over my machine, and the longest filename i can find is about 18 characters.
If i want to write an essay, i'll use Word.
Yes it is a bit backward that AC wont support a long filename, i agree, but i think that having shorter filenames in a more organised folder structure would benefit your workflow anyway.
BTW this bug isn't on the PC:-)
