AC 17, Moving in 3D, Auto level assignement

Hi,
AC17 is great really, But it's really annoying, In 3D view when I move object (form, wall, slab...) in heigt AC auto change the level assignment. And it is not a good thing !!!

Is there a way to disable this auto-function?

Another badly thought out sample. Existing building remodel, actual levels:

ground @ 0'-0"
existing roof @ +16'-0"

The owner wants to add a mezzanine at +8'-0" and a second floor @ +20'.

Work on the project for 3 months and you contract a new graduated architect and you handle the final coordination with the consultants.

The mech engineer tells the new architect that he needs 2'-0" space under the mezzanine and since the new guy knowing that AC fixes the levels by itself just moves the level up.

What happens to the existing roof? And what happens if you had a specific existing pipe that cannot be moved and know will conflict with the new mezzanine level?

In AC16 I can put those items on a Locked Layer (and lock them individually in addition) so that they don't move but in 17 that is not an option.

I just try something I do sometime In the beginning of a project, move everything in 3D to realign model. Not at a so advanced stage in the modeling process, But I want to try.

But It enlights some "problems" of AC17.
I know I should HAve used Select mode to move every thing in 2D view.
But In 3D view AC inspector don't know how to handle many floor at a time, If you change the floor parameter, EVERY elements is put on this floor. Meaning that ALL elements goes to ONE floor. not a good thing.

Strongly agree - IF GS wants to make walls link automatically, then everything: slabs, complex profiled beams and columns, window head heights, stairs, E-v-e-r-y tool must relate to this wall tool extravaganza.

Having said that - this is a step in the right direction of making the building model more intelligent. Personally I would have preferred a collision detection tool long before I will ever need an automatic wall height adjustment feature.

Cool that you can link to stories in 17, but...
why does the walls, objects and other stuff have to jump away from the hight I have set relative to project zero. Grrrr.

My problem is that I have made my own balcony railings that are meant to be offset -100 mm under the story it relates to (story 2). In 17 this means that it automatically choses to relate to the story beneath (story 1) but offset +3100 mm. This is all good in 3D and on the elevations. But the plans are messed up. On story 2 no railing shows. It showes on story 1 where I do not want it. Do I now have to draw it in 2D on story 2 and cover it with a fill on story 1?

HELP!

With the element selected, right-click and choose the Relink Home Story command of the context menu. Then select Story 2 to be the Home Story.
The Home Story will be changed (also the offset value) with the element staying in the same vertical position.

Laszlo,
Thank you. I sometimes forget to explore the possibilities of the right click.

Hi,

Thank you all for your feedback on automatic story assignment.
We plan to change this functioning in the second ArchiCAD Hotfix like this:
- the home story option will be an optional choice (like in v16 and before)
- if the functioning was set to "fixed" it will stay as "fixed" until set differently.
- compared to V16 the only change will be that there is no lock in front of the home story, instead the type of functioning is shown with the text "by elevation"

Please let us know, if we can be of any further assistance.

I'm not clear exactly what this means. The main question for me is: Will I be able to reassign the story settings for elements in 3D and keep them at their current elevation?
