AC11 1040 tooooo slooooooow

Eduardo Rolon
Moderator
Working with the same file in AC10 and AC11

AC 10

open = 1 min
open organizer = less than 1 min
update all drawings = 1.5 hrs

AC 11

open = 9 min
open organizer = 11 min (perfect for a smoking break)
update all drawings = 3 hrs (perfect for an executive three martini lunch)

The first release of AC11 was this slow, with the first patch (1033) it became usable now with the third patch (1040) it is too slow, I am beyond sarcastic.

…and this is a possible 5 year project so I want to keep it in the current version so that when AC16 is out I don't have problems.

I haven't found it yet either.....but I have not researched anything lately.

I know all software is not free of bugs, but I would like have problems resolved, and not simply treated like a captive source of income for the the software manufacturer.

Maybe if GS sees that each year fewer and fewer people are upgrading they will rethink their balance sheet shareholder profit driven release schedule.

I have been an ArchiCAD fan since v.7 but I determined early on that upgrading to v.11 had the potential for disaster. I am happily chugging along with v.10 1010 and believe at this point it is the most stable and useful release.

It is both sad and vindicating to see the heartache and loss of productivity that this release has caused. I am sure that many people are experiencing a problem free upgrade but the cry from the unclean masses is getting louder.

Gosh, while V11 hasn't been problem-free, it hasn't been much, if any, worse than 10, and there are several new features that I would hate to give up. Granted, I'm not doing major hotlinking or teamwork, but it's been pretty well-behaved for me (except for the object preview bug). Certainly not so bad that I would postpone upgrading at this point.

AC11 has been a unusable for me with projects migrated from 10. Noticeably slow was only the tip of the iceberg. 11 freezes. US tech support was able to reproduce some situations and have had similar complaints on other problems from other users.
I wish I knew what gods I made sacrifices to that mine is not that slow. The only times we've seen slow performance in AC11 is when we have a ghost, I mean, Trace Reference with a different layer combination than the foreground.

I've had a few big building sections as ghosts. They take a moment to rebuild, but not more than if I had just opened the section to rebuild it.

Is there a company whose internal quality control issues you DO want to lose time/money over? 😉
Seems to me all these should be worked out before release, or quickly resolved after the fact. Neither is happening.
I agree, any reproducible problem should be dealt with before release. If not, it should be dealt with soon after.... soon meaning within the first month at worst!

The worst ones were the ones reported in AC10 or in AC9 that were not fixed (many of them stubbornly classified as "wish list" items instead of bugs or problems)... oh, but the new WorkSheet tool was SO important!

Would you do me a favor: test my slow file and record the times?
I would make it up with specific instructions for moves and whatnot.
I also have a 2x2 G5 so it might be useful/

I am not alone....

The best advise from Tech support here... finish 10 jobs in 10 then start 11... Sure, lets have everyone in the office working on different versions, different libraries, different templates...now that would make my job soooo much easier. (Sarcasm is my last defence)

Oh & report a bug in 10... whats the first thing they gonna tell you?? We fixed that in 11.

I tried changing the library to 11's library... The doors & windows are version specific, which i believe may be the route of all the evil... i am open to correction...please someone correct me.
