We are experiencing the same problem... we migrated a project from 18 to 19 and it is WAAAAYYYYY slower. Just selecting an item takes 10 seconds.

I have been trying to migrate a project from AC17 to AC19. I have done this successfully for several other projects, but one file takes at least 30 minutes to migrate, then 30 minutes for users to open/join, then 30 minutes to send/receive changes. That is if it doesn't freeze up or crash the computer.
I have tried migrating through the migration assistant, saving as a pln/pla, merging the file into our 19 template, saving to 18 first; but the file will only operate at a reasonable speed in ARCHICAD17. I also tried cleaning up and purging down the AC17 pln to reduce file size, polygon count, library content and attributes before migrating; still no luck
Given the lack of support for AC17, and the pending (non-compatible) release of a new OS by Mac, I need to get this into AC19 soon.
I am also running this by GSNA tech support, but curious if anyone else has seen a slow or non-operation to this extreme on migrated files? If so, any suggested trouble shooting beyond what I've already tried?

Are you aware that GRAPHISOFT is explicitly asking people NOT to upgrade to Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan yet since there are major issues?:

Speed in ArchiCAD 19 requires proper (smart) use of tabs. Tabs that are open are updated in the background. If you are in the habit of opening and closing views (tabs), you are not reaping any benefits of background processing, as far as I know.

On older machines, even with fast processors, I've found that this is critical. For some reason, the 3D Cut Plane feature slows down everything when turned on, even in 2D view redraws! Don't just delete cutting planes, turn the whole thing off with the purple icon or View menu > Elements in 3D View > 3D Cutaway.

I suspect that this has something to do with older video cards, perhaps an update to the OpenGL code base. It seems that newer computers with lower specs (processor speed, cores, and RAM) still perform better than machines with better specs that are 4 years old.

Specifically, I have a lot of 2011 27" iMac's with 4-core i5's and 12+GB RAM; not a bad machine. But that 3D Cutaway just kills them in a large project. My 2014 Macbook Pro has no problem.

I haven't installed the latest Hotfix yet, but I'm hoping that might help.

We have submitted all that was requested, no response.

We have updated all to the latest AC 19 v4013, this file is still very very slow. We have investigated many of the suggestions and comments from SEO complexities to other object type issues as well as link issues. For our practice this is a typical project 130 Apartments, rather small actually.

It appears that the performance issues still need much work as it is very unproductive to work within this file. We had hoped the ArchiCAD folks would be of assistance but it appears we are on our own to resolve this issue.

The latest suspect is an out of the box stipple finish we have used to represent carpet with a cover fill. Rather strange in this day and age that a 2d type of pattern is bringing ArchiCAD to its knees.

Stan,

Try going to the options-project preferences-Legacy and click use legacy intersection and surface methods. I have one project that was dog slow and in this one particular file it sped things up dramatically.
