That is the official price of Archicad... don't forget to add the subscription to that! Even at the $3200 price, add on the $695 subsciption and it's back to $3895...

Of course, Revit is in the same price range...

Tom,

$1395 only adds functionality to a base package which is $995

VW Architect really costs $2,390. Upgrades, expressed as a percentage of original SRP also are higher than AC
Actually I don't think this is correct. The Architect Package without Renderworks (which includes the Fundamentals) is $1395 not $995 + $1395. These are predefined bundles that you can buy, not add-ons. These means that if you are only interested in basic drawing then you buy the Fundamentals bundle ($995) and if you want everything then you buy VW Designer ($2195) which includes all the different bundles.

Nice to know I wasn't losing my mind! Though suddenly I'm not feeling as special as I did when I thought I saved $995!

As for content, like I said, I don't think it's quite there yet, since it has some nice features that Archicad lacks (like NURBS modeling), but does not really seem to be able to do the same level of detailed reporting/scheduling. From what I've seen, their object language is not as powerful as GDL either.

I think in another release or two, they could catch up with Archicad and Revit in functionality, run on both platforms, be usable for multiple industries, and be 1/3 the price.... If you want my pick for the next real competitor in the BIM market, there it is.

Sorry,

I went back to the VW website, cleared my shopping basket and started again. VW Architect w/ RenderThingy is $1795USD.

I'd call it 70% of Archicad plus another 15% of a different modeling software and 5% of another drafting software.

2.5D

And that's my final offer.

No Floating Point Math
Layers and Classes are a Dog (and as old as the MiniCAD itself)
VW takes you down the 3D road and then leaves you at the cross-roads

As great as Revit has become, Both Graphisoft and Nemetscheck get huge points for showing some respect for the mac platform.

Ive tried vectorworks before and liked it. i like the lighting design and landscape product. hopefully IES lighting will be in Archicad in the future.

I dunno... NURBS modeling is pretty hard to ignore! 🙂
