I used Vectorworks full time for 18 months and at that stage it was barely 2.5d. I know it has improved since then (ver9/10) but I'm never going back - far too traumatic.

What about Mini Pascal? Is that still there? Did it get re-branded?

I first saw VW around that time. I remember thinking "Cool 2D, barely existent 3D"

I'm still not a huge fan, but they really seemed to have developed quickly, which is why I'm suddenly noticing them again. No one else beside Archicad and Revit seem to be showing much forward motion.

You gotta say though - Archicad 9 still has it's quirks...

I am proud to say, I am working with Archicad! I don’t understand to panic and the comments here at the board!? All of you know what happened after the rushed Release of Version 8.0 which was premature! We hardly learned our lesson. ArchiCAD 9 was showing us with a little bit of patience we had an outstanding application which was and still is the most stable Release we ever had. Our competitors will make the same experience we made. Archicad 10 is going to be even better that will outstrip our competitor’s. There is no application which comes close to Archicad 10 right know.

Cheers,

Markus

And that's my final offer.

No Floating Point Math
Layers and Classes are a Dog (and as old as the MiniCAD itself)
VW takes you down the 3D road and then leaves you at the cross-roads
In the old MiniCAD 7 there was no floating point math. I once drew a design on an angle and rotating it back never got any of the lines really horizontal.
This was solved since VectorWorks 8. I don't think they removed it in VW12.

At least Layers and Classes give you two systems for structuring instead of only one: Layers, as in AutoCAD

My biggest gripe with VW, was that the sections through the 3D Model were not usable and there was no way to have a full integrated 3D Model connected with the plans. Although I got pretty far in the last version I used: VW 8.5

Things might have improved since then, but I don't think that they'll join the league of ArchiCAD or Revit.

Let's wait till AC10 is official. Then you can do the comparison between ArchiCAD 10, Revit 9.0 and VectorWorks 12 or 13. Anyone interested in organising some "comparison" competition?

In the beginning it is normally very hard work for architects to handle with CAD.
For this reason it is very very important to choose the best CAD.
We must focus on design, not on the computer.
If I choose one CAD several years ago, than I want to use this one also for the future.
I can improve more and more this one programm (I am not tester for CAD-programms!).
Preinformation about the next version is also for this reason important.
ArchiCAD is right choose for this purpose.
I was just not satisfied to see some views of AC 10 in the inofficial site, but not here!
Buy stock quick before 10 comes out, sell at the end of the year and make enough profit to pay for the upgrade. ? ?
