Associative Dimensioning

if i could ask about the fine details of how to use the associative dimensioning tool...

when i try to dimension doors for their rough opening, i am finding the hotspot is at the inner opening. it is a library part door but i imagine there is a solution involving code???

same trouble with walls (composite and complex profiles). how do i get the dimension to associate to a thickness (ie. sometimes the whole wall, sometimes the core, sometimes the core and a skin)?

will the dimensioning tool associate to lines (ie. column grid)?

can i associate a dimension to points (not hotspots) a library part (ie. center of mullions on a store front window)?

i am finding these things to be difficult but i thought perhaps there were ways around it, tricks, settings, etc.

thanks!

General rule fo thumb: you can dimension associatevely to anything that shows a checkmark cursor, and a crossed circle while dimensioning.

If the dimensioning control points, showing where you have already clicked, show crossed squares, those points are not associative.

Door and window dimensions can be read automatically by the dimensioning (see options).
