does anyone know how to change the background colour of the display from white to black. thanks.

Options menu / Grids and Background command, double click the Background colour field and pick a colour

Using AC25 5005 UKI FULL

You can also change that annoying arrow pointer to a large cross-hair via menu/options/preferences/autocad-settings/display

Silly question but why is a crosshair cursor better than the normal mouse arrow?

All the other graphic apps I use such as Photoshop, Freehand, iMovie, Strata DV and Strata 3d use a normal mouse arrow cursor. I find this much clearer than full window crosshairs which just get in the way.

Actually, try drawing with a black pen on a black background.

Much more soothing on the eyes and this way you don't have to worry about clearing up wall intersections either.
