Circular Column missing penetration lines

When Circular columns intersect other objects the intersection line does not display in the Sect/Elevation view. How can I get the "penetration lines to show in Elevation view? I have the "Show penetration lines" special menu item. but that seems to be a 3D window option only.

Hi Jay,

Did you try either the old standby: making sure that the fill used for the log column is not the same as that for the railing? (E.g., both look like empty fill or solid white ... make an empty fill (2) and then duplicate the wood material and associate this duplicate fill with the duplicate material.)

Or, how about SEOp subtracting the columns from the rails and ledger board?

(Agree - penetration lines are a pain.)

You can't count on Special Menu items. As you must be aware it is where the developers put things to test or park debug and other commands.

You can get what you want with SEOs as long as the railing parts are modeled solid (which they almost certainly are). Either simple addition or subtraction will work since all you need are the lines where they join.

Hi Karl, thanks for the reply. yes I have set up many different "Empty fills", (Air space, Empty Fill1, Floor/Roof, Joist, Joist(2), Rim, Rim(2) & Stem).

The Railing is actually the 02Sitework9>Fences & Railing 9>Railing Vertical. The Section Fill is set to % 25. (not my normal convention) ant the Column fill pattern is Empty Fill1.

For what it is worth, the railing is really suppose to be Circular logs also but time constants and not knowing where else to look has left me to model the Railing as rectangular parts.

I will give the SEO a go. I am always weary of placing to many SEO's in a Project. How many is Too many?


Yes Matthew, I am careful not to "go to deep" into the use of the Special (a.k.a. Danger un-tested) Menu. Received many "thumbs-up" from others about the stability of the "show penetration lines" option.
