License Delivery maintenance is expected to occur on Saturday, November 30, between 8 AM and 11 AM CET. This may cause a short 3-hours outage in which license-related tasks: license key upload, download, update, SSA validation, access to the license pool and Graphisoft ID authentication may not function properly. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Create DWG from 3D ArchiCAD

Hi.
Is there a way to take a 3D view in to AutoCAD as a DWG?
I am hoping to take some line drawings of my perspectives and axonometric in to AutoCAD to further edit.
Obviously it will be flat right?
Thanks.

Not sure why you'd need to go into AutoCAD... but if you are in a newer version of ArchiCAD (13 and up?) you make make a 3D document of any 3d view. That view can be exploded in archicad and turned into line work for the editing you'd do in AutoCAD.

Or conversely you could just do a save as DWG from the 3D document window.

Next week or the week after I'll have a blog post up that uses a similar process to take linework into Illustrator.

Thanks, this seems on the right track. Just how do I 'explode' whilst in 3D Document view?

So I have an artist that is going to produce a rendering for me. He wants a DWG file of my 3D rendering view that he will use in his workflow with a Piranesi EPX file. Though these prior posts discuss saving out a DWG from a 3D view and exploding a 3D document, I have not found a way to execute either. Saving from a 3D view results in a DWG plan view. Am I missing something?

You can save from the 3D window directly as a Piranesi (.EPX) file.
I don't think you need any special add-ons to do this.
At least I don't recall installing any apart from the standard add-ons from the Graphisoft web site.

Yes, I'm aware of that. What I'm unclear on is how to save out as a DWG. Don't ask why I need to do that. It's just part of the artist's workflow.

Dave,
To save 3D *.dwg file open 3d window and do a save as with the window at the front and select dwg as the file format, 3d dwg saved.

Best of luck

One would think that to be the case, but give it a try. What you get is a DWG of the floor plan.
