Drawing a slab.

I have some questions about drawing a slab. For instance the slab of the flooring of the first floor, where should be drawn In the first floor with 0 relative elevation or in the previous floor with the real height elevation.

Ok I ll draw the slab in its own floor. Lets get an step forward. When you need to represent openings, thats means a continuous line in its floor and a dot-dashed line in the floor above. How do you set up the uncut lines, is there any kind of override that solve this or you have to draw a line to represent openings in the floor above and set up the slab only to be shown in its own floor.

You are on the ground (lower) floor.
The slab above is modelled in the storey above and set to show on its own storey and one storey down.
In the project preferences you set the line type for the storey above as dashed.

You should now see the entire slab with holes as a dashed line from the lower storey.

If you don't want to see the entire slab, set it to show in home storey only.
Then you could place an object representing the hole in the slab above.
Set this object to show in own storey and one storey below.
This will only use the linetype set up in Project Preferences if you turn off the floor plan display option to use object linetypes.
Or sometimes it is just easier to draw lines.
Not such a good option as they are not associated to the slab or holes above.

Come on Steve, please answer your own questions and the reasons why you wouldn't use slabs. He's a new user and you have totally confused him as well as me. Make it a teaching session.

Unfortunately, Archicad is sadly lacking quality tutorials on this sort of thing. They show you what the tool is for and how to use it but none of them explains the reasoning of using it one way for better results further down the line.

I know Barry is the number one helper on this forum and hasn't the time to explain in this case why one way is better than the other, especially down the line for document output.

This is relevant for most of the tools in Archicad.

There is an opening for someone like you Steve to record and explain all these little rules (as in this question) in short tutorials at a minimal cost to the new (and existing) users.

What do other users think? cheers
The thing is, wherever you have a slab-on-grade you also have thickened slab under some walls, sloped slabs, slabs with turned down edges...you need to select elements that when used together will display the dashed lines you want with out having to draw any lines at all. I make foundation plans all the time with no lines. https://www.screencast.com/t/SXqGQVWRHPtl

As for the tutorials:
