Exporting to Photoshop?

Hi there, a quick question I need some advice on....

I'm trying to export plans I have drawn in Archicad 9 to Photoshop CS2.... how do I import them at the correct scale?

E.g I have drawings done and saved in photoshop format psd. at scale 1:50, however when I place them onto a scaled (A1 portrait format) sheet in photoshop, I can tell without printing and measuring that they aren't at 1:50, and I havent done any resizing in Photoshop.

Can anyone help?

You could go through elaborate attempts to lock in the export size, but Photoshop is only interested in total pixels and not the abstraction of scale.

I suggest that you should resize the export visually using a graphic scale cue.

Foolproof.

I dont think thats going be possible, the scale needs to be perfect and I dont really know how to resize them visually in such a way that they'l be 100% correct.

The idea is to assemble conventional drawings such as plans/sections/elevations on a page with visualisations and 3D views.... I cant believe you cant just import the drawings at the correct scale. There such a lack of interoperability in all graphics software.

Can anyone suggest another way I can do this without having to resort to individual printings and cutting things out and sticking onto a page?

It is that pixels/vector thing....

you would have more predictable results in Illustrator, and a much smaller file in the end.

Photoshop is not the program for this. Use InDesign and place the drawings as PDFs. Photoshop does not understand scale (as Dwight points out) and has no reason to. InDesign understands it automatically and elements are placed by default at 100%. Of course it is only interested in output sizes (paper space) and couldn't care less about the size of the building or the schematic scale.

There is plenty of interoperability as long as you aren't asking the program to do something it isn't designed for.

My point is as a graphics program numerous people use in conjuction with architectural graphics and presentation it seems a little unfriendly that there is no way of scaling drawings. I still stand by my statement that there is a lack of interoperability in general.

Aside from that, thanks for the tip with InDesign... I'll look it up and see what I can do!

I've done it many times. You just need to print your plans/sections using PDF-converter and then open PDF in Photoshop. PS will ask you about scaling of you pdf-file - be sure to enter the same resolution that your pdf has. If layout in photoshop has the same resolution as the converted plans, your drawings will be in correct scale
