Imported Images (Figures) Disappearing

Instead of redrawing them, I've imported them into their own detail windows, set the scale, then referenced them into the Layout Book.
In concept and 90% of practice this works fine (slows the file down big time, but works). There are a few figures that just sporadically disappear. Don't know why.
These are the different combinations:
- Shows in layout book but doesn't plot
- doesn't show in layout book, but visible in detail window
- not visible in either.
Any ideas?

Just in case you were wondering (seeing as I can tell there is a huge demand for the answer out there
) - I fixed the problem by taking the images and reducing their resolution (in Photoshop) from 600 to 300dpi.
So there you go - you can all sleep better now.
