I bought the program and key a while ago from the internet and I guess it was never registered to me - I wasn't aware that it had to be transferred to my name....

When you buy a license from someone who is not an authorized reseller, you have to pay about $450 US to have it transferred to your name.
If you're one subscription, they do replace lost/stolen keys. Otherwise, you are on your own.
New licenses for Archicad 11 allow you to work on versions back to Archicad 6.5. If you buy a new license, your reseller will probably have an old Archicad 9 disk that you can use to install it.
Personally, I'd highly recommend just learning and using AC11. It's come a LONG way since Archicad 9.
