Making Oval Handrail ?

Anonymous

Would rather not spend time tweeking the stair maker tool as it hasn't been that productive in the past.

any hints on how to model a handrail for an oval stair, as shown attachement?

Perhaps a 2D profile applied to a primitive form?

Will appreciate any ideas/suggestions.
Thanks,
Cedric Araica

I have modified a tube of mine. This one allows to follow an elliptical path.

Parametric, four profiles,
X and Y radii, start & end rotation angles, slope or height, by graphical hotspots.
Additional text for height. AC 8.1 & 9

Enjoy.

Hello Olivier,
Nice work !!
I was playing around with your handrail object and tried making
a rectangular handrail 2" wide and 36" high because I wanted
to see how you handled the issue I brought up in a previous
post on this topic.

To quote myself:
"I tried to make such an object using the TUBE command but
TUBE tilts the corners of the facets of the arc to the angle
defined by the incremental elevation change along the path.
This plays havoc with the object when an elliptical shape
is generated and even when the shape is a circular arc
there is distortion caused by this tilting. "

When I viewed your object in 3D as a TUBE it had the same
problem as described above but if I switch to TUBEA the corners of
the facets are now vertical and the distortion goes away.
This is terrific !!!
I have never studied the TUBEA command (my error)
but now I will thanks to your demonstration of it.
Thank you Olivier.

John,
Take a look at the attached object and you will see what I mean.

Peter I downloaded your rail and am busy using it to make a sloping curved multi pipe horizontal railing on a ramp. It is great

Thanks Greg.

Hello Greg,
I would definitely recommend you use Olivier's object
as you have a choice of using the TUBE command
or the TUBEA command. This can solve some problems
that I had pointed out on this thread.
