Meshes - how best to "trim" them to an edge??

here's the deal:
I have one mesh with contours which I need to have dissected into two.
one to show "asphalt" as the material, the other to show "grass" as the material.

How do you "trim" to a line meshes?? so you can keep one half of one and the other half of the other copy?

If your line is straight, as it appears to be, you should look into the split command.

Another solution would be SEO with intersection... This way you could keep the integrity of the mesh... and make your terrain editing way easier.
