My model has disappeared from the 3D Window!

Hello everyone!

My model has now quite complex and I am sure has reached quite a glutenous fie size..

Over the last 2 days whilst working on the project, any sought of 3D View in the 3D Window disappears – (and not from moving the cameras to some ridiculous view point).. The only way to recover it is to reopen the back up plan and go back a few minutes/hours/ work depending when I last save and hoping that I haven’t saved over the back up.. Is this a prevalent problem or just a program with the user and not the software.. it is quite disconcerting and plenty frustrating!

Any ideas or suggestions that you may have?

Would love to hear your thoughts, as per usual - if you get the chance or if this topic is relevant to you at all!

Cheers,
Chrissy

mmm..excuze me .. but not getting it ..

so because its HUGE its taking time ? or its just not showing?

if its just not showing you can try couple of things to be sure of the problem

- try both perspective and axonometric
- try to select a marquee 3D view
- mmm..don't try this at home " but sometimes i would do that only for exporting to other 3D programs .. i would switch to internal 3D engine with wire frame view so its fast and then i export it "

but if its just that the model is HUGE and you want some tips... there is the

hope this will help

I almost feel like AC Gets tired and just says "no!"

I have tried the below points - apart from exporting it - but doing that would defeat the whole purpose of modelling in archiCAD.. the project is only mid way through.. and it shouldn't be the file size because reverting back to the back up plan usually does the trick assuming i haven't saved over it with the 'tushy' version.

It is very odd!

Thank you for sending the link - i have never seen this before and it looks like a good read!

Cheers!

nooo !! i mean when i need to export the model for rendering or so.. and its too huge to deal with in Archicad and i don't feel like waiting just to export .. so i would just turn to the " don't try this at home ..mode "

ok..so its trashy... are you able to see the model in any of " axonometric - internal engine ? "

so its not about size..its about something wrong happened to the file...

sorry ... it happens !!! but it could be fixed once you know what elements or layers are causing the problem

yeah that's it - i think something with in the file terminates or malfunctions.. probably in response to something i do if no one else has the issue! ha ha - typical user error!

i've never heard of this "don't try this at home.. mode" and no - it doesn't even show in the axonometric view..

It has happened twice over the last two days.. i think whilst playing with windows.. i think!

so... no model in axonometric or perspective , not even with marquee tool... not in " internal engine model" " i can just think of updating the display driver..but its just a shot in the dark "

then.. as long as i don't have the file ... i would recommend that we will just wait till some one have another thing in his mind to pass by this forum...

so ..close your eyes and start shouting with me .. HEEEEEEELPPPPPPP

ha! sounds good!!

I am on the new macbook pro with Mac OS X 10.4.10.. if that makes any sort of difference - I know of at least one major problem between archiCAD 10 and my mac operating system - but thats in relation to printing and publishing..

Thanks for you help!

Did you try putting a marquee around a small area on plan and then hitting the F5 button?

Also - what are your settings for "Filter Elements in 3D"?

Hey guys!

All the filter settings are correct and yeah I use the marquee - i use that the majority of the time to speed up the work flow..

It is a strange one.. that is for sure! I am glad no one else has the issue - and at least it is forcing me to archive the project and back it up more regularly - thats for sure!
