Problems with Wall trimming

I am having problems trimming a wall to a roof. The wall is a complex profile, shows up fine on the floor plan, but when I trim it to the roof, in 3D it disappears. The windows are still there, but the wall is gone. Shows up fine in plan view, but not 3D.

Hello Link,
I tried selecting a wall, making it the target, selecting the same wall
and making it the operator, then tried all four SEO operations but all
I get is an error saying "no valid targets stored" and the wall
did not disappear. I would like to see what Mukster says he sees
which is apparently some roofs and other elements but windows
floating in air where a wall should be but is not. You say you have
seen this before and it was because the wall was used as an operator
and a target. Where there windows left floating in air ? How do you
get the wall to disappear without getting the error message I get ?
Thanks,

I may be doing something wrong on my end but I can't see the coursing lines in elevation view using the complex profiles. Which is one reason why we rarely use it. You can just as easily get what you are after using the Log Details settings in the wall tool and maybe composite walls. I don't think it would have any effect on your current issues, just an observation.

I have also seen this happen using SEOs (but not the Trim to Roof function). I don't know exactly what caused it, but I knew it was SEO related because the wall was visible in the Story Window, and invisible in all other Viewpoints (and, yes, the windows were there in 3D, floating in space). I canceled the SEOs and the wall reappeared.

Not much help, but I have witnessed the phenomenon...

Hello Laura,
That is amazing .
Floating windows and all.
Do you happen to remember which version of AC
you were using when you saw this effect ?
Thanks,

This was AC11, about 2 months ago...

Hello Laura,
Maybe that is why I can't reproduce this effect.
I am still in AC 10. Perhaps someone using AC 11
can confirm that making the same wall both
target and operator will cause the wall to disappear
leaving doors and windows behind.
I am reminded of an ancient Chinese saying which goes
The eye cannot see it's self, the sword cannot cut it's self.
But in AC 11.....
Thanks,

I have no idea what solid element operations are - our walls are a complex profile, and I'm using the trim to roof command. All the other walls are fine, just this one is causing a problem. When I move the wall 5' out from the building, it shows up just fine (properly trimmed and everything). When I move it back, it disappears. And, I can't get picture 2 to load up. What are the steps to loading a picture? Do I click on the filename, then add attachment button?

Click "Browse", select file, and then click the "Add Attachment" button -- only certain file types under a certain size will attach (but you'll be notified if this is the case).

I would suggest giving Solid Element Operations a try. Search the Help file. It is pretty simple and can be done in Section and 3D views. It's advantage is that you don't need to undo/trim again if a wall moves.

I had noticed a while ago that if an ordinary wall is drawn between
the ends of a "U" shaped polywall then the ordinary wall disappears in 3D.
If the ordinary wall is dragged away slightly from the polywall it appears again.
If there are windows in the ordinary wall they still show in 3D.
Please see attachment. Maybe something like this is what is happening.
