Residential: Fascia Trim Modeling

RTT_ADG

New to Archicad.

We are trying to figure out the easiest way to do soffit and fascia trims.  Our typical soffit and fascia at gable ends has the rake continue sloped, and the soffit is boxed flat at the eave.

(See attached photo.)

My first attempt at trying to recreate is very fussy.  It requires multiple elements and a lot of SEO's.  I have to think there's a better more user friendly way to achieve this.

If anyone has some tip, techniques, or examples that would be greatly appreciated.

Also if there's any other type of fascia connections that people use or once struggled through I'd appreciate seeing the different approaches to this.

Thanks.

Great work @Steve Jepson and thank you for showing us your excellent techniques to cut down on polygon accumulation. I’m sure many users here will benefit from your post.

Hi @Jeff Griffin that’s pretty cool to be able to do a log style home in AC, something that is quite rare in my region.

I started out with CA so for American style homes with roof returns, dormers etc I would probably use that, providing that home is not too complicated. Because those functions of roof returns and dormers are automatic in CA.

for anyone who wants to see auto roof returns in CA & HD please see this video. Yes it would be nice if AC could do this automatically as well.

For auto soffits in CA please see this video too.

I have CI tools to help me with some extra roof components in AC.

Here is a YouTube video I made using the railing tool

Great work @SenecaDesignLLC, I personally would need information on how to set up my railings and a verbal explanation as well in order to follow your excellent Archimaster technique.

Yes, I made a complex profile that included a 2 piece fascia and the soffit.  I used that for the eave and rake.
But in order to get it to clean up with the sloped rake, I needed to add 2 fussy pieces at the corner.
It gets the job done, but really fussy.  Just figured there has got to be a better way.

Thanks for explaining a little further.  It's seeming like there will be a bit of extra work and creative use of tools involved to do this...without the use of a GDL type tool.  Unfortunate since we do this often.
The models look great. Thanks for sharing.

Are you interested? I could probably make a video with some explanation if enough people are interested.

It takes a lot of different profiles without the object I wrote but still very functional.

Yes, please!

Well, I've found a slightly better solution than I was trying by using this technique.

Turning the beam just slightly around the corner.  But this too is a little finicky getting the beams to trim up with different pitches.
And you need to model a soffit separately as well.  But, when it works, it doesn't look too bad.
