I saw some documents to compare between Revit and AC.
I study Revit from own website.
It is just copy from AC!!

I used to work with AC (and very satisfied, and like many friends from AC-forum).
As AC-user I hope, AC must be better than Revit for Architects.

I have not used Revit, but just seen from Website.
The web-site from Revit is so nice, that I must believe, Revit should be better than AC.

I like to know your opinions and also opinions from GS.

Thanks

I haven't benchmarked AC10 yet but was surprised to find that AC9 runs nearly as fast in Rosetta as it does in Windows on my MacBook. The only significant difference is Lightworks as it doesn't use both cores in Rosetta.
All of this points to the need for a universal Binary version as soon as possible.

But while we're talking AC Vs Revit...... Metanoia, Scott if you're listening, can you drive a stake through my heart and absolutely positively confirm that the screenshot of Revit on OSX was a hoax and that Revit will never, ever come to my beloved platform?

Yes, it was an April Fools hoax....but never say never! Who knows, it could happen someday.

can you guys explain to me what Revit Families actually are?
Tom,

Revit families are 2D or 3D objects, parametrically driven. They are graphically created, no programming required, and can contain logical and mathematical expressions. They can contain parametric arrays. Display of the objects in any view or how they cut is controllable. Your door example is correct, you could resize a piece without affecting the whole.

Families are perhaps one of the most powerful features of Revit, and yes, they are relatively easy to create, depending on the complexity of the object.

Typical Autodesk coquettish teasing. They're keeping me on the hook, certain I'll hold a torch for them --and I will-- but in the end, I know I'll be spurned.... Just another rejected swain on the heap of failed hopefuls.

It wasn't always this way. I was there at the AutoCAD Release 11 for Mac OS intro in San Francisco lo those many years ago. Sure it was a lousy port (they actually recommended doing stuff with ResEdit.... Gawd) but we still appreciated the effort. In fact, we all wanted to love it but it was so bizarre looking we just didn't know how. We were like teenagers fumbling with each other in the dark but neither one really understanding the needs of the other. So we kept on staring into our 13" screens and waiting for ArchiCad to finish drawing a section. Sigh....

But Revit would be different. More like the Maya port. Steve Jobs would introduce it at Macworld and we would all swoon as one. It would be frequently cited as further evidence of the Mac's ascension. The Mac faithful would go wild and be willing to overlook draconian subscription requirements. How could Autodesk want to reject that much love? Are they just nervous that we would be too needy? Maybe they think we're too committed to our current spouse, ArchiWhat's-her-name? Maybe they want a sign from us and that's why they put Scott and Metanoia here. If so, guys, please read my puckered lips: bring in on!

I think you guys have been using Archicad for too long!
I've never used Archicad before but just got my first play with AC10 a few days ago ( been using Revit....since version 5) AND IT IS SENSATIONAL!

I haven't been able to stop playing with it.

Finally I can see what I'm designing in real interactive perspective..that alone convinced me to switch, let alone the most intuitive interface.

I just love the GDL scripting modules. I'm probably a geek at heart, but the ultimate flexiblity can't be ignored.

And how come the interaction is smooth and doesn't jerk around on the screen? I thought all BIM packages were clunky?

Seriously though, I think its one hell of a package and , personally, graphisoft needs to congratulated. And I was serious about the switch.

Come to think of it, you might be right.

After stopping using AutoCAD good decade ago, I am baffled by some things that still can't be done ... no, not me, the people who know it well.

The clunkiness is something that everyday users take for granted, and we really NEVER have the time to try "the other side".

You mean SWITCHING to ArchiCad?! That good is AC10. I love ArchiCad but did not know how the other side may feel.

This sounds like me when I first found Archicad... before Djordje made me so negative all the time 😉

I can just agree with you. AC maybe not the best CAD, but the best for Architects.
