Maybe,is better 2d drawing in archicad, because you dont need to redrawing for 3d, but i insist, that ONLY for 2d drawing face of the project, autocad is faster, even for a non expert user.Simple interface ,basics commants for 2d.
In the 3D-modeling stage, it is sure that Archicad is the king.

Anyway,it is just an opinion.

...i was just wondering if anyone knows how you would go about cutting a sections through a building and when i open the section/elevations window; is i possible for the materials that are labeled on the floor plan to pop out with leaders and the materials you used on the floor plan or a generic text something to get you started...

Well, sort of...
Can you be more specific about what you mean by materials?

While it's not necessarily automatic, you can select any entity in the section and elevations and assign a label to it...It just takes a couple of clicks and a label will appear.

If you want something truly automatic, you might consider looking at Cad Image's Keynote add-on.

Where are you located in Texas?

Sure lets say that you have a wall that has a eifs finish then a composite wall panel with a 5/8" gyp board. and that shows on the floor plan. when you hover over it show what type of wall it is. then you put a sections marker threw that wall open the section/elevations window and have the wall sections with leaders and notes on it automaticity. or it doesn't have to have the specific materials but just the leaders and generic note so you can have it started. not expecting the world but just a path to take.

Have a question about team work. We have a couple of people working on the same project and they use team work, but sometimes they need things that the other person has and are not able to work on anything because of it, so its like sit and wait. I was wondering is there a better way then using team work. I have heard some people say to use modules and take different parts and then put them back together. I don't know if this is a better way to do it or there is something more efficient.

The key to teamwork is planning. If someone has something that the other needs, is it critical that it is done immediately? Can they do something else and come back to it later? Or can they have the other person do it for them?

It also helps if people divide up redmarks by workspace, so each person signs out what they need for their own work ONLY. If they are not working on it, they do not sign it out. This might mean one person on interiors, one on exteriors, one on details, on on layout editing, etc.

It's definitely not the traditional way of doing redmarks, but then again Archicad is not a typical drafting program, either.

For small offices it would be better to alow multiple people let say 3 manipulate a file on a server. This is much more productive the present one is a pain not more than having some backups.

The big problem in Teamwork at least in 9 is that only by signing in with full acess the layers and layers combination could be modified. This is unacceptable.

reading from the beginning, and writing about what is this topic:

first i don't know why autocad is in this, because if we are going to talk about 2D, i prefer vectorworks than any other. Autocad is light years far from a cad for an architect.

i have been 10 years using vectorworks, before that, autocad, now i change to archicad, in where i see an enormous power with some pros and cons.

conclusion
never think in autocad

This is for Srinivas
Hello,
I am an absolutely new user. Purchased ArchiCAD 10 a month ago. Havent really been using it since I have teething problems. I know its very powerful compared to ACAD ( I use BricsCAD ) but I'm having trouble using it. I have the ITG guide's and some sample file downloads but still not very comfortable.
May I know whether there are any India specific samples drawings/models available on the net ?. Something that could help me get started fast ?
Nice if you could help.
regards,
Anoop
