I see layers as having much more flexibility, and when a wall might be made from a curtain wall, a slab, a morph, a beam, a shell, etc., to just put an entity on the correct layer seems pretty transparent and intuitive to me.

Hi Matt, your post was made a while back and I am interested to know if you feel that you are up to speed with Archicad now ? I switched from Chief Architect to Archicad over 20 years ago, I still use the other software from time to time on much simpler projects. Although I can usually model up a simple home much quicker in Chief Architect, I much prefer the way Archicad works with the design elements not being so connected to each other. I tried Revit and I like the feel of the GUI and the way you draw walls in it but since I am not from a strict Autocad upbringing I find it hard to learn the other tricks in it. I am mostly retired now but I like to know how you feel about Archicad after having some time to get used to it ?

@mthd I see that you're relatively new to this online Graphisoft Community. In general, responding to old topics (even only 2 years old as this one) only muddies the waters and things change, people move on, etc. In this case "Matt" is not a member of this new "Community"... you'll see that his user name is "Anonymous". That means that his posts were migrated from the old archicad-talk forum to here, but he did not sign up for this new Community to "own" his posts - and hence his posts were somewhat 'anonymized' per EU privacy requirements. In short, he'll never reply to your post since he's not here. Well, maybe not never as he might sign up with a new UserID ... but the likelihood he'll find this thread and your post is pretty small.
If you try to click on someone's name to see their profile - in order to send them a private message - and the name is not a hyperlink to the profile page, then that means that the post is from a historical user who doesn't exist here any longer.

Hi Karl, thank you for the update, much appreciated. I was on the old forum but I wasn’t able to update within the allotted time from what I have read here. I was hoping this poster would have come to appreciate Archicad as much as we do ? It’s a bit like learning a new language or learning to play a new instrument when you change cad software. I used to play the keyboard until I learned the guitar, it took time to get up to speed but in the end I liked the guitar more than the keyboard. Same applies to me with Archicad from my other software. Thanks again.
