Selected items in 3D don't stay selected after editing

Does anyone know why anything i select in 3D will not stay selected after I make a change? I have to reselect in order to make more changes on the info box. This did not happen in AC11 so maybe it is a preference that I am missing?

FWIW, this problem persists after the 2325 hotfix.

Played around some more and noticed that if you select an item (e.g. a wall) in 3D and then edit it, it will appear deselected in the info box. But you can still bring up the wall selection settings with a keystroke, and then edit it from there.

But there's a caveat: when you bring up the wall selection settings, they will be set to the "Default" wall settings.... instead it should give you the actual info for that particular wall.

It's a real mess, and in my opinion this should be a big priority for the next hotfix.

edit: this problem only happens for me in the 3D window, not in the 2D plan.
