Selecting windows and doors in a wall

I find it extremely slow and frustrating trying to select a window or door in a wall. I am sure there is a trick to it, could somebody tell me what it is?
(it just keeps selecting the wall and sometimes the only solution is for me to zoom in very close)

The easiest way is to select them on the corners of the opening in the wall.

You can also grab by the center, but you have to be a pretty good shot for that. The corners work really well.

For doors, you can also grab the hotspot on the end of the door swing,

Hope that helps!

With the new "quick selection method" is it not possible to click on any part of the window to select?

I seem to be able to do it! Or am I missing something here?

The door tip is great, thanks - the windows are still my enemy. I thinkt he problem is caused by the fact that i am using empty windows, so there is nothing to click onto to...... i think it is sth that could be made more intuitive.
Try it, place an empty window with no synbol into a wall and then try selecting it. it is total hit and miss.
THanks for your help though!

You should still be able to click on the corners of the empy opening. If it cuts a hole in the wall, can't you click on the corners of the hole?

yes - on some openings it is not a problem at all - but on others - it is impossible. I wish I could demonstrate it...

Do check your cursor range settings. But if they are OK then one (workaround) way to select 'otherwise unselectable' items (eg. windows) would be;

- draw a selection marquee
- select the 'window' tool
- press 'ctrl-A' (on Windows)

... if this doesn't work then you really do have problems

dont worry about it. I think it just a bug that turns up here and there. I deleted wall and place windows again and le voila - np.

Another 'trick' for quickly selecting doors/windows without zooming in:

If you use a door/window dimension marker (and turn it on in a Display Combo) that has a centerline and symbol, such as the NCS marker (US) ... there are hotspots on either end of the centerline. No chance of selecting the wall. 😉
