Selection Method

Is there a way to make the Selection method a shortcut (similar to geometry method which is "g")? I guess now that I look at it is would only be viable for the selection tool. In any event there doesn't seem to be a location where that is shortcut can be assigned in the keyboard shortcut area of the work environment.

Any ideas?

In Archicad 14, the selection method can be determined by the direction of the cursor defining the selection area.

This feature is described near the bottom of the article found in Archicad Help searching for "Selection Method"

If you have used Autocad it is the same procedure.

When I select a load of different lines (some lines, arcs, poly-lines etc) to change to layer or colour: I find only one line-type has changed, so I have to go back and select arcs etc separately to change them.

How can I avoid needing to do this?

You can also use the "Edit Selection Set" command (command+Shit+T) and this will allow you to change the entire group's layers and line types.

Just to explain how this works:
When selecting multiple element types, the Info Box will show yo the settings of the last selected element. If you go to its Settings Dialog and make changes there or make changes in the Info Box, only elements of that element type will be affected. So it the Info Box show the settings of a Line, then the layer and color of only the lines will be changed, not those of arcs, polylines etc.

Took me a moment to figure out that you meant to type "shift"

Thanks Guys! This will save hours.

Because of the impressive 3D and rendering stuff I think the 2D side of ArchiCAD is often overlooked: There is definitely an opening for a training package on the 2D drafting techniques. I think it could be used to wean the 2D devotees from their favorite CAD packages, I suspect that most drawings in the UK still originate in AutoCAD LT.

Control-[censored] should definitly be a comand option...
