Slanted beam problem

Not applicable
Hello,

I am trying to slant a beam while maintaining its co-plainer relationship to the slanted/leaning columns.

every time I try to slant the beam, It will go out off plane.
I have attached some image to help explain what I am trying to achieve.

below is an image that shows how the beam goes out of plane when slanted

I am really struggling with this. I really hope someone can help me with this. I have posted another image that shows how my beams are out of plane.

kinda getting there. I have been messing around with a number of approaches. I think the 3D look good, but my section clearly shows that the diagonals are not on the same plane.

any suggestions or ideas how to work this out?
thanks

Maybe a stupid question: did you try TrussMaker?

Hi Djordie,

I have tried strussmaker, but wasn't quite successful.
I am trying to build a diagonally braced frame for a high-rise structure. the frame is to be tapering and this tapper is what is causing the problem.

Project is in Kuwait, not too far from Dubai.
I will spend some time learning how to create my bracing members in GDL.

thanks for your suggestion

Take a look at OBJECTiVE - it has been designed to make this kind of thing easy: http://www.encina.co.uk/objective.html

Some parts which will be of particular benefit to you:
- 3D rotation: http://www.encina.co.uk/obj_rotate_movie.html
- 3D working planes: http://www.encina.co.uk/obj_assemble_movie.html

Ralph thank your for the reference.
I have looked at the add-on and it sure looks promising.
Rotating and object in 3D and the workplanes are exactly what I need to build my frame.

thanks a lo

But... shouldn't ArchiCad have this working correctly? Somebody else pointed this out also not too long ago. It seems that the solutions these days is "look at this add-on" or some such thing. Not that it's neccessarily evil to use add-ons (I use them myself), but seems like we're talking about basic functionality here. Shouldn't the basics be implemented better given that we're on the second (or is it third) hotfix?

(and yes, for the record, I do have my own frustrations with AC). Oh, and BTW, I'm not blaming you Ralph, just venting.
