Measuring system. MAN - measure of all things.Surely do you want to bury the last natural system of measurement?
In order to meet the needs of a person makes a thing. To serve man, they must be proportionate to it. In ancient times, human body parts were a natural basis for all units. Even today, that most clearly imagine the size of a subject, we say that he is in so many times life-size, its length is of so many elbows, that he is in so many feet or more in so many heads above.
The introduction of the metric system of measures to stop these methods of measurement.

The foot can be divided by 1/2, 1/3, 1/4...... what is 1/3 of a meter? Not sure that I get why being able to precisely divide a unit of measurement by 3 is so important. Continuing that logic dividing a foot by 5, 7, 9, and 10 doesn't really work. Are those divisions any less important?
Some Facts for you:
- 96.5% of the world's population use the metric system.
- The USA ratified the metric system in 1866 (they just failed to follow through on it).
