Trim to roof

Tom Krowka

I have walls that I cannot seem to trim to the roof. When I select the wall, the trim to roof is not highlighted. I know the roof overhangs the wall. The roof is on a separate level, two level away from the wall in question. I'm trying to extend a wall two floor, trim to the roof on the third level. Does it recognize roof by the default layer name? I have changed the roof layer name.

Thanks,
Tom

Select both the wall and the roof and click the camera tool.

Then click trim to roof and it should work fine.

When I select roof, wall, either or both, the camera tool and in the edit menu, "trim to roof are both greyed out".

Doesn't work for me.

The walls should be higher than the roof; that is, in 3D, you should see the walls piercing the roof. The roof polygon should cover the walls completely.

Select the roofs and the walls in 3D, make sure that the grouping is off.

Tom, also ensure that both the walls and roof layers you are using are not locked.

Thanks for the 3D tip. I did not realize this command only worked in 3D. I assumed it would work in the elevation view as well.

Elevations and sections are not so good for editing, except if you move around and align doors and windows. The roof trimming works in the plan and 3D window. Make it a habit to work in the 3D window as much as possible, and then some; shame not to squeeze all that OpenGL horsepower out of your expensive video system!
