License Delivery maintenance is expected to occur on Saturday, November 30, between 8 AM and 11 AM CET. This may cause a short 3-hours outage in which license-related tasks: license key upload, download, update, SSA validation, access to the license pool and Graphisoft ID authentication may not function properly. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Version 9 upgrade will cost $595.00 US after October 1.

Remember that fantastic free upgrade we got for the 20th Anniversary edition? And no charge for the 8.1 revisions? Now we pay! $495.00 US until October.

Firstly I think these posts are in the wrong topic!

The different upgrade fee and the overall cost of archicad in various countries is something that has been quoted before but I don't remember seeing any response from Graphisoft.
I don't think that it has to do with the localization of the software (this would be a joke!).
A big question is why aren't there different policies for countries where an engineer's fee is lower since there is already a different price in the US.
I am sure that there is no comparison between the salary of a British and a Greek architect. As there is a big difference between our salaries and those working in eastern european countries.
I know a lot of architects in my city (1.200.000 population) with over 5 years of experience being paid 1000 Euros per month. How are they supposed to buy AC? The cost of living is equal to that of any other european country. The truth is (defined by the law) that engineers do not get paid fairly for their services here.

To conclude:
495 $ sounds ok , 1600 € doesn't (for an upgrade).
3500 $ sounds ok, 6000 € doesn't
The only thing that I could advise someone to do is get on a plane, fly to the US, buy AC and return to Europe. It is cheaper and you get a trip too!
And cheaper upgrades as well.

Long-time lurker (from the days of the ArchiTALK digest last century

The cost of the ArchiCAD 9.0 upgrade here in Canada (from GSCNE in Ontario) is as follows (all prices in Canadian dollars which equal ~ 77 cents US dollars at this time):

- from AC 8.0/8.1 =
$675 1-4 sites / $545 5-9 sites / $495 10+ sites

- from AC 7.0 or earlier =
$1,045 1-4 sites / $875 5-9 sites / $795 10+ sites

- new licence =
$5,195 1-4 sites / $4,750 5-9 sites / $4,550 10+ sites

After 30th September 2004, the prices increase by a few hundred dollars and the reduced pricing for volume purchases (more than 4 site licences) will be eliminated.
