Walls/windows-irregular shapes...

Anonymous

Hi everyone!

I'm having a big problem with creating an 'odd-shaped' window or wall...it should be fairly simple task, but I've had no idea how to do it...

say, I want to have a leaning wall of some 'crazy' shape, and a polygonal window...how can I achieve this???

i'm a student and have to set up my 'deconstructive' building on cad.. Please help!

Welcome, mkurdziel4. 😉 The moderator will probably move this thread to the Library Parts or Working in ArchiCAD forum. It is perhaps a language problem - but the "wish" forums are not where you ask questions. They are where you ask Graphisoft to include a feature that does not exist.

You can create any kind of irregular opening or niche in your wall. This is done by creating the shape as a slab (and possibly other elements) on the ground, displaying the assembly in 3D and choosing File > GDL Objects > Save and saving as a Door or Window (see icons in the dialog). The hole-cutting slab - which can be completely free-form and curvy - must have "wallhole" as the ID ... or if you only want a niche, "wallniche".

The process is described in various threads here on the forums - search for the word "wallhole". Also, you'll find a description of this in the online help files in the book Intro to Object Making - or just go to Help and the search tab, and search for "wallhole" or "wallniche".

Naturally, if your wall is actually a collection of walls, cutting the hole is trickier.

Another approach, if all you need is a hole without any trim, glass, etc. is to just create a cutting mass and use solid element subtraction to create the hole.

Have fun with it,
Karl

Check out the Intro to object making PDF in your ArchiCAD's Documentation folder for the freeform windows.

Check also Wall extras for crazy walls!

For the "deconstructive" window you can try the "Play Wind beta" of CU Mirco if you are in AC9, downloadable Here after free registration there
