Zoom Selection ability greyed out....what gives?

they just installed AC17 and AC18 on my MAC.
I'm now getting "re" used to the MAC.....again...so for some reason...the "zoom selection" is now 'greyed out'?
Any advice?

Yes it does - thanks.
Another button I don't need now if I can remember to use it.
You can teach old dogs new tricks but with me it takes a little while to sink in.
