gradient fill

am having trouble with the gradient fill, in that the circle is a tiny do of colour in the middle of a sea of white
how can i stretch the gradient to fill more of the area with colour?

You should see two circles.
One for the extent of the solid fill and another for the extend of the graduation.
Grab these and stretch them.
You may have to activate the "Move sub-elements" option on the pet palette if it shows up.
