how do i HOTLINK a building and other parts of a file?

...have been working on this file since 2009...so it has also been updated as AC has changed, started it in AC10, now in AC18. We have a permit, but now have made a major change in the project in that we are taking 179 sq ft off the existng building, moving some interior walls and one exterior wall to a setback required so that we can change our 'carport' to a Garage w/ADU above.

Since we already have a permit and have begun demo, the city said the ADU portion of the project must be submitted as a separate permit. That being said, a lot of the changes to the original plan involve the specified setbacks that the ADU must adhere too...

I have two files, one is the original, which I keep modifying...the other, using a lot of the same information, is for the ADU...

Have used the 'hotlink' tool when working with an Architect on another project, but am not clear how/where/which building to hotlink....

HELP!!! I am sort of lost here....
