lineweights – New/Exist./Demo (2) questions

Question 1:

For now, I'm still using the standard AC9 pen for backwards-compatability reasons in my projects, and I use the top row for the black lines and pens 88 for ghosted regular and 89 for ghosted light LW. Is there a way to be sure the pens 88, 89 show up grey, while pens 1 through 10 show up black?

(I'm trying to create plans & elevations that "ghost" existing walls/etc., while showing new walls/etc. in various lineweights of black.)

Question 2:

In elevation drawings, can you have "distant area options" in elevations that vary the lineweight by distance, but still have 3D material hatching be a light lineweight?

(I've set up the "distant area options" in my elevation keys so the linework shows up light/dark for near -vs.- far, but the material 3D hatching seems tied to those lineweights. I need the 3D hatching to be independent – i.e. a light lineweight.)

Answer 1:

Definitely. You need to make sure the penset applied to the drawing of your plan, uses a penset that is set up to show the pens as you desire. Check the drawing's settings to see what penset is applied to it.

Answer 2:

The 3D Hatching doesn't have to be tied to the lineweight. Try unchecking Uniform Pen for Uncut Contours in your Elevation settings. Then the 3D Hatching pen reverts to it's setting as per the material of the element. In the Materials dialog, you can set the 3D Hatching pen to be 'tied to the element', or you can override it with any pen of your choice. Not exactly a straightforward answer, but the answer is, in essence, the 3D hatching can be semi-independent.

Clear as mud?
