showing walls as dashed lines on other stories

Is there a way to show walls as dashed lines on stories other than there home story? If so please tell me how.
I would like to show the walls as dashed lines on the framing and foundation plans. Currently I am drawing the walls on these stories with the pline tool. It would be great if there is a way to show the walls as dashed lines on other stories.
Thank you,
John

AFAIK "Partial Structure Display" is not available in AC11.
This will take some time to understand. I'll give it a try on Monday.

Would please send me a screen shot of the Partial Structure Display so I can see if it is available in my version of ArchiCAD.

Thanks again,
John

The workaround I would use for AC11 (works with 14 also) would be to use different sets of pens for the architectural and structural drawings. The Composite settings are:

1. Contour - Solid Line pen 255
2. Foreground Fill - Skin Pattern Solid, pen 251
3. Hidden Line - Separator, Line = dashed, pen 253
4. Solid Fill
5. same as 3
6. same as 2
7. same as 1
-----

You will need to play with the line width of 1 and the thickness of the fill in 2 to see which achieves the best result. Partial Structure Display simplifies this problem and looks better when lines are intersecting it is under the "Document" Menu in AC14.

-----

For the architectural drawings pen settings, pens 255 and 251 would be black

For the structural drawings pen settings, pens 255 and 251 would be white

This does seem simple and I remember Karl talking about this in producing Elevation views with "hidden Basement walls. While I too like a Virtual building with no extra stuff, this fill could just be a Favorite saved to the respective structural framing layer.

We would have to be careful with display order though I would think, since we may only want the walls to be "Dashed".

Apparently it was introduced in AC12.

From My original Post
Jay wrote:
So I would look into making a Composite wall with the Core Lines as Dashed (although maybe not good for other views) and set the Framing Plans to Partial Structure Display to Core only.
I was Previously on AC10 a month ago and did not have the Partial Structure Display, and believe it was also not in AC11.

So although ejrolon mentioned Cover Meshes in the first Post the late example was using the Dashed Core and the Partial Structure Display set to Core only

Aloha Ejrolon,
I would be grateful if you could explain in more detail or step by step how your ArchiCAD 11 solution is achieved. I had thought it involved using a mask over the whole view.
I looked for the Partial Structural Display setting in ArchiCAD 11. It does not seem to be in this version. According to the wiki article cited here it was included in ArchiCAD 12. I would like to try your ArchiCAD 11 solution.
Thank you,
John

Hello John,

I am NOT using any Fills to MASK the Walls!!!

With that out of the way:

1. Create a Composite following the previous instructions. For more information look in page 23 of AC11 Reference Guide
2. Assign the composite to your walls
3. Save 1 view for architecture and one view for structure
4. Each saved view will have its own Pen Setting, for example arch-pens and struct-pens. Page 24 of the AC11 Reference Guide.
5. In arch-pens the pen colors for the Contour line and the first fill will be black which will make the composite look like it has a continuous black line.
6. In struct-pens those same pens will be white which will let the "dashed" line show.
7. You will need to calibrate the thickness of the fills in the Composite to get it to look like you want.
-----
The look you can achieve using Partial Structure Display is better than the one with this method. This is a Work Around therefore you will have to spend sometime figuring how to get it to do what you need and there might be situations were it might not work. I don't use this trick therefore I am not an expert on it.

Aloha Eduardo,
I have been attempting to try the set up solution that you have explained. For some reason how to get the set up of the composite that you explained seems to not be working for me. Could you post a sample of the composite so I can try the one that works for you?
Thank you,
John

In the Wall - "Cut Settings" did you enable "Apply Structure Settings"?

PM me and I'll email you the base file.
