showing walls as dashed lines on other stories

Is there a way to show walls as dashed lines on stories other than there home story? If so please tell me how.
I would like to show the walls as dashed lines on the framing and foundation plans. Currently I am drawing the walls on these stories with the pline tool. It would be great if there is a way to show the walls as dashed lines on other stories.
Thank you,
John

Aloha Ejrolon,
Thank you so much for your patient help with your solution. This morning I finally got it working. I can see that I'll still need to test it more and get it fine tuned.

It is interesting to see that the thickness of the fill makes the hidden line more or less visible. I wonder why that is? Right now I have the thickness of the fill set to 1/16" and it seems to be working. If I set the fill to 1/32" the hidden line is kind of sketchy. I wonder why?

The one thing that I am not able to do in ArchICAD 11 is to set the linetype of the wall ends. In ArchiCAD 11 the wall ends are solid lines. That works for me for now.
Thank you,
John

Now I need to add these special settings to all of my wall composites.

Aloha Eduardo,
I thought at I had this all working but then when I placed the dashed line view on the Layout the wall lines are not dashed and the outer skins are showing. I have checked the dashed lines view several times and it is working and has been saved with view settings that show only the dashed outlines of the walls framing core.
Why is this dashed lines view showing up on the layout with all of the walls skins showing as solid lines?
What do I need to do to make it so the walls in the dashed lines view shows up as dashed lines on the layout?
Thank you,
John

here is the same view of the walls as dashed lines when I place the view on the layout.
Why is this happening?
How can I fix it so the view on the layout retains the dashed lines of only the core of the wall?
Thank you,
John

John,

We are in uncharted waters here since this is a workaround. Check that the Pen Settings for the Drawings are the correct ones and that they are not defaulting to another set. You will need to read on how the composites work in AC11 to see if there are some clues there as to the specific problem.

The problem was with the drawing's settings. The drawing was using the wrong pen set.
To correct the problem I set the drawings to use the view's pen set.

The other settings don't affect this ability to see the dashed lines of the walls above.

OK, I must be dumb. I don't really understand all the settings involved here. And for some reason following Erika's instructions isn't working for me. What am I missing?

When you go to View Settings cut plane settings I assume it's for the roof plan, yes?

I'm not seeing dashed lines, just the walls on the story below with solid lines. (Using her settings of "Show down to Current Story -2 ft" does show the window and door openings, which is nice.)

Any ideas of what I'm missing? Thank you!

Well, I just stumbled onto the answer to my frustration. I'm doing an addition to a house. I have the existing house in a separate hotlinked model. I set its exterior walls to be dashed, etc according to Erika's settings. When I updated the hotlink in my project...some walls were dashed, but not all!

The ones that weren't dashed were extra tall so I could trim them to the sloped roof. Aha! So I set the cut plane for my roof plan to 10 ft (higher than what my walls actually were set at) and I got my dashed walls.

I did lose the window and door openings in my roof plan though. Any tips are welcome!

4a) AFAIK "Partial Structure Display" is not available in AC11.
Aloha Erika and others,
You mentioned Partial Structure Display available in versions after ArchiCAD v11. I am wondering if ArchiCAD v15 has an easy way of showing wall framing as dashed lines (with door and window openings too) on structural plans?

This would be a big incentive for me to upgrade.

I appreciated the workaround that you outlined. I tried it on a project but it was a bit too much to coordinate so I went back to just making 2D dashed lines to represent the wall framing on the structural plans.

I'm hoping that there is an easy solution for this in ArchiCAD 15. Ideally, there would just be a way to create a live view that showed the real (not just 2D lines) wall framing as dashed lines with openings where the doors and windows are located so I can easily see where the wall loads bear on the floor framing plans. I would also use this to show where the door and window headers go on the floor framing plan for the next story up and for the roof framing plan.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Thank you,
John

I've read the whole topic but I couldn't find an answer to how can the walls at the story below been shown at the current story with a dashed line?

The overhead lines work for the walls above but if you have a ceiling plan and want to show walls below with dashed line what can you do?
