when I assign materials Archicad freezes

I have duplicated some of the materils from material list to be project specific. Whenever I try to assign materials Archicad starts to freeze. I have removed the preference folder and reinstalled Archicad. The problem keeps coming back. Can anyone help please!

What version of AC are you using ?
This was a known bug in a sub-version of AC 8.1.

I am using AC 9.0 -2172 .I think its because i have cutom named materials

Named how? How long are the names? Any diacritical characters there?

I had worked like this on other projects before all these updates and had no problem. This was a way to work on projects and not get the materials all mixed up. I will try to exclude the 'dot' charachter and see what happens
