window on two stories?

how do I set a window so that it shows on first and second floor wall in 3D view. Right now the window gets chopped off by the bottom of second floor wall. It is a two story space on the inside of the wall so I know that it is not the second floor slab thats doing the chopping.

Only use one wall that extends from the first floor and into the second floor. In your case make the first floor wall taller and delete the wall on the second floor. You now need to control the visibility of that wall using cut planes versus a symbolic view. Look in the wall setting to find these controls. You also might need to play with your cut plane height...

thanks, Is there a way to just join the two walls together?

You can also create an empty opening on the second floor.

While there is no way to merge the two walls into one you can create a single two story wall.

The simplest way would be to extend the lower wall and then eyedropper (option/alt+click) them from the upper wall and insert them into the extended one. The wall display will need to be changed to "automatic" and the windows (at least the upper ones) to "projected".

The old way of making empty openings in the upper wall will work in 3D but can be a problem in the plan view.

That's the worst advice I've heard for a long time!

In ArchiCAD 10 windows and doors can be moved or copied between walls that have their reference lines in the same plane. It's a great new feature!

It would be easy for you to view these 2 walls in the 3D window, move the top wall vertically from it's base up to it's height, then stretch the top of the bottom wall up to the bottom of the top wall (using the pet palette option), making it a multi-story wall. Once that is down, you can simply drag your windows from the top wall down into the multi-story wall. You can move them all at once, and they will move from one wall to the other. When you're finished, simply delete the top wall.
