zones: why do they ooze out in plans?

Sometimes when placing zones drawing the perimeter because there is no wall between the zones, graphicaly they seem to seep into an adjacent area.
Why is this?

the attached example shows arched openings between foyer to dining rm,
foyer to great rm and dining rm to great room. Those 3 zones being selected you can see that the perimeters of each were drawn not touching; i.e. the area under the arch was not yet assigned to a zone.

When I move the edge of the great room (dark purple zone) , what what happens to the adjacent foyer and dining rm zones.
