Archicad 28 template is weird/off from past versions's default templates

In the past, when a new version came out, I opened the default template and modified. Each was very professional and each version was fairly close to previous versions.

Version 8 is completely different and is very rudimentary. It no longer has sections, schedules, finishes, etc. Was it a mistake?

Operating system used: Windows 11 24h2

I read somewhere that all language versions of Archicad now come with a copy of the International (INT) template. It’s called “Archicad 28 Generic Template.tpl.” If you’re using that in a region where a localized template is available, this might explain the difference you’re noticing as it’s an entirely different template than what you’re probably used to.

If you’re in a region where localized templates are available, you should use the “Online” template instead. In the USA, it’s called “AC28 USA Template.tpl”—not sure what it’s called in other regions. I remember seeing an article that goes more in-depth; if I find it later, I’ll share it. In the meantime, the Archicad Help Guide has some info about it here:

EDIT: I found the original post I was referring to HERE

Perfect!!! I clicked file > new > the drop down box and found the "AC28 USA Template.tpl"! For some reason the "AC28 USA Template.tpl" is not stored on teh disk. The only file now included is the "Archicad 28 Generic Template.tpl" file found in "C:\Program Files\Graphisoft\Archicad 28\Defaults\Archicad\"

Thanks for the help!!!

I found the post I was talking about earlier HERE and it states the following:

"When Archicad is online, these Online Templates automatically appear in the New Project dialog and are selected by default. Once downloaded, they are stored locally for offline use, but updates will only occur when Archicad reconnects to the internet."

Unsure why it was not defaulting to the online one for you, it happened to a buddy as well, but for me it has defaulted to the online version every time since the initial release. Maybe theres something there in your connection like a VPN, firewall, antivirus or you were offline the first time you used Archicad 28 and it caused it to default to the generic one instead of the online template, who knows... But glad you got it sorted!
