Default Line Settings Changing

I was at work today doing some very tedious line work (2D). I wanted all the line work to be on the same layer, however, the default setting I set for the layer of the line would not stick. Sometimes two or three times it was okay. After that it defaulted to a layer I did not ask for, What's the problem?

I had a similar problem in AC11 that I brought up in THIS THREAD but never got it resolved. Haven't had it happen recently so it might have been a problem with a particular file or two, or fixed with a hotfix. Can't help other than to say I feel your frustration.

Thanks. I read the thread. I've used ArchiCAD since 6.5 & this has never happened. I simply did a Find & Select on all the lines that went to the wrong layer & moved them to the correct layer. There's always a work around an ArchiCAD problem. I'll stay tuned to see if anyone else has encountered this problem.

I've not seen this behavior, but I see Stuart had even tried Active Layer in that old thread... 😞

Perhaps I've not run into it due to my use of the Eyedropper when switching tools for this kind of task... might be an OK workaround for you, Jack?

I don't know if this is related, but there is a pesky little button in the settings of lines, splines etc. that, if checked, keeps the settings between elements. Personally I leave it unchecked. If I'm drawing a dashed line with a certain layer and weight, and I click the spline tool, the layer, weight and line type stay the same.

Most of the time (for me anyway) this is not desirable.

Dam I am having this problem at the moment, the default layer keeps reverting to MISSING, no matter how many times I change it back, after a few clicks on other things it's gone again
Not much chance of a hotfix now!

Maybe you are applying a Favorite which loads settings stored in it to the Line Settings Dialog. And the Layer stored in the Favorite does not exist in your current Project File.

No I don't use favourites for drafting, but changed them all anyway to the layer that I do want them to default to.
Restarted AC & PC. Still happening!
I will see if I can get tech support to help on Monday. I hope it can be fixed!
Really annoying!

Same problem as Rogerdodge. Happens in multiple files and multiple users on multiple machines. No favorites have the 'bad' layer. Even using the eyedropper it only holds the new layer for a few mintues. Haven't yet determined if some specific action changes it...switching between tools and back to lines or something of that nature.

Any solutions from your end Rogerdodge?

I think I just discovered when exactly it occurs. When in the line tool with the layer that I want, pen, etc. I switch to a fill, any fill and use the fill tool, then use my keyboard shortcut back to the line tool and the layer has switched to the same off layer every time. I erased the layer in question and now it's missing when I go back to the line tool. Appears to only be a problem with the line tool and only when I use fills....I'm at a loss. Happens in plan, elevation, and section, like clockwork.
