There doesn't seem to be any Favorites Preferences that affects this so I'm lost how it's occurring or how to correct, any ideas?

I am looking at version 12, but I think this is the same in 10: go to Project Preferences > Miscellaneous > Favorites Preferences: check the tool for Parameter Exclusion. If this is not here, check the ArchiCAD help files for its location in version 10.

David,
I can find my Favorites Preferences but I don't find anything that affects the layers, only the specific parameters like walls, columns, beams, etc.

Click the triangle next to the tool.
You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.

David,
I now see boxes to check which reveal more options for each element...I have to learn to look for the triangles.
I think I found what was confusing me, if I put the cursor over a particular Favorite, sometimes the Info Box would show the "ArchiCAD Layer", yet if I move the cursor to the plan view as if to use it, the Info Box would revert to the correct layer, only to change again to the ArchiCAD Layer if I move the cursor back to the Favorite item. What confuses me more is this only occurs on some of the favorites and not all, and I can't figure out a pattern.
Thanks for your help and suggestion on the Signature which I'll work on.

Normally the Info Box shows the default settings. The default settings are those settings that the new elements will be created using.
If you go over a Favorite item, the Info Box changes to show the settings stored in that Favorite. That is the difference.
If you want those Favorite settings to become the default setting, double click the Favorite. Then the Info Box will not change, because now the default settings and the settings stored in the Favorite are exactly the same.
I hope that makes sense.

When there is one or more element selected, in the top left corner of the Info box you can read "Selected: n / Editable: n", and the info fields show the setting for the last selected element.
("Editable: n" only appears if you have locked elements or layers)
When nothing is selected, the info box caption is "Default setting", and the setting shown are those used for next element placed with the active tool.
When you hover the mouse on the Favorite palette, the Info box caption change temporarily to "Favorites setting", allowing you to check what the setting will became if you activate that Favorite (by double-clicking it).
So, always read the leftmost text in the Info Box, to know what the figures refers to.
