Ghost layer on my machine does not show up through objects. Is this normal, or is there an overall setting for this to make it happen.

I always thought the elements on the storey were always in front of elements on the ghost storey.

That's pretty normal. The other alternative os for the items on your ghost story to hide the items on you current story.

I'd call that worse.

One thing you can do is turn off all background fills in the display options.

Many Objects have fills in them which overlap stuff from the Ghost Story. You can set your fills to be Transparent in Display Settings in which case you will see the Ghost Story data better.
