Layer Management

From time to time my view sets get screwed up and I loose the layer settings with it if I haven't set up a Layer Combination for that view yet.

It is making the Layer Combination again that I need some help with.

In this case, I have turned on all of the layers, then used the Quick Layers pallet to turn off all of the layers I don't want to see.

Now I have the layers I want for that view set again and I can make a new Layer Combination for it. However, there are still lots of layers turned on that I do not need for this view set. They are not showing up because they are on a different story or something, but I don't want to include them in my Layer Combination for this view.

Is there a way to save only the layers currently visible to a Layer Combination?

I have been publishing views since AC5.0 and have found layer combinations to be the ONLY way to ensure reliable consistent output. I can see how it is possible to work with custom layer settings for each view, but it is not the intended method and cannot be expected to be reliable. I find the effort of setting up standard layers and combinations pays off in so many ways that it is well worth the time, even in sole practice.
Very well said Matthew.

I wish you had posted your advise about this three or four months ago.

It is not that much extea work to make the layer combos. Espescially if you have started out with a good template.

Very interesting, considering that there was no Publisher in 5.

Matthew - don't confuse the people. You were saving PMKs with defined views until 7. Publisher came out in 7.

Absolutely!

Don't forget that Layer Combo also save Intersection Group & Solid/Wireframe model.

Layer Combo is also great for editing especially in large project. For example, moving Modules in Master file is so much faster if we can just toogle to lock all those Terrains/roads/trees with a click on the Layer Combo.
