Rebuild views

I have all my views set to manual rebuild. Is there any way I can rebuld all model s/e from model but using the view settings(especially layer combinations) instead of the model settings.

How are you invoking the views?

Either you do that from the Project Map (which you should not) or, if you do it from the Navigator, they are not correctly saved.

Are they correct when you update them (during the lunch )?

as i said before . . . and explained in your other post about this . . . in order for the updating to work properly out of the drawing manager you have to switch all of your sect/elevs to 'automatic' rebuilding first. then just click select all of your placed views (drawings) in the drawing manager and hit the update button. then go have lunch.

you can save sets of selections using the 'selections' palette: so if you add all of your manual rebuild sect/elevs to a saved selection set you can quickly switch them between auto<>manual rebuilds and back again once the update is complete.

for what it's worth . . . and again repeating what i have said before . . . this would be far easier if GS gave us an 'Update Selected Views' command out of the view map . . .

Actually, I complained about this so much to GS tech support they had one of their techs contact me and try to duplicate the problem.....and can you imagine.....they indeed identified it as a bug. It has a number and everything. I hope they fix it in a hurry.
I have to give credit to GS for the process which permits them to keep users in the loop. It did take two months however.

Archiben:

Have tried your method and seems to work....although I am nervous about believing what I am seeing. I keep thinking as I look at the drawings...."didn't I change that? what's that doing there"

Selecting them in Drawing manager and clicking Update does not work?

it does - as i explained to tom a couple of posts up and in his other thread about this!

the problem is that it doesn't work when the sect/elevs are set to manual rebuild. if you have complex sections and elevations, working with autorebuild on is impossible.

so: in order to update the placed drawings of various manual rebuild sections or elevations you have to go through them manually updating the views by view criteria ('rebuild all model S/E's from model' does not work if the views are using different layer combinations and 3D settings!)

therefore, it would be great to have an 'update view' button accessible from the view map that updates the view and includes the rebuilding of the sect/elev using layer combinations, etc that are applicable to that particular view . . .

are we getting somewhere yet . . . ?

That's the issue. And it can be costly and embarrasing if you assume all your drawings are updated when using manual rebuild.....cause they are not. GS knows this now. I'm hoping they give us that new command.....real soon.

Of course you can select the s/e., change to autorebuild as decribed by Archiben......but AC should be more efficient than that.
