Show Zones in Section or Elevation Archicad 25

Hello, I am excited to see that you can now view zones in section and elevations in Archicad 25. This feature prompted me to download this version and transfer from 24.  But when I open a file, I cannot figure out how to display a zone in Section. Is there a toggle I'm missing to display that information?  In the graphisoft overview it went into a lot of detail about the new zone tag but the zones aren't visible in section to tag.

There's no reference to this new feature in the AC25 User Manual. I've tried looking in the New features Guide and in the relevant section on Zones: User manuals > Archicad 25 > Elements of the Virtual Building > Construction Elements > Zones. Nothing.

If I've missed something, please link the UM references here, thanks.

We're planning to upgrade to AC25 soon, and would've been nice to have a simple reference for staff.
I'll just have to blunder through, following the various finely-wrought work-arounds described thus far (thanks to you all for sharing) and likewise for building a suite of zone labels to replicate/emulate our existing GDL Zone Stamps, at least graphically

Labelling zones only appeared in the first update for version 25.

So if you have the initial release you will not see any mention of in tin the reference guide.

Update to the latest build and you will see it.

You can also read about it here ...

Thanks Barry, I was referring to the publicly-available User Manual on the Graphisoft support  site, which I’d assume would be maintained to be consistent with any new build releases. Perhaps not?

You would think that would be up to date.

I will bring @Minh Nguyen into the conversation.

He should know who to notify at Graphisoft to have the HelpCenter updated.

Hi Gerald,

Thank you very much for your report!

The old User Guide on Help Center is no longer updated. We are working on how to redirect it to the newer service properly.

For now, please follow the latest guide here:

Thank you very much for your understanding!

Best regards,

Minh

YES!

I couldn't almost believe it. With this new feature, I've always to deal with layer visibility... much more than before when navigating to different project views.

(Mostly transparency in section and elevation is turned off... mostly I don't want to see zone volumes... except to revise, check, edit them...

... and for this the option is great.

But to turn it off causes more effort than everything else with this...🤔

So I consider it as an urgent request:

Please add a button to switch it off (and on) easily.

I experimented with this a little bit and I have found a Graphic Override Rule that will hide Zones completely in Sections/Elevations.

Apparently, you have to:

1. Override the Fill Background Pen of Cut Fills with Pen 0 (Transparent).

2. Override the Surface of Cut Surfaces with "Air" (fully transparent Surface).

3. Hide Model Contours of both Cut and Uncut elements.

Of course, this applies to Archicad 25 Update 2 and later as Zones are not displayed in Sections/Elevations in earlier versions.

I think this is as discussed earlier.

It only works if you have 'transparency' on in the section/elevation settings.

So if you also have windows, shower screens, glass cabinet doors, etc., that you don't want to be transparent, you then have to use a non-transparent glass material for all of those objects.

Also, because 'transparency' is in the architecture of everyday life more the exception (lines etc. behind windows are mostly more confusing than everything else...)...

... I've made a wish.

Seems that earlier with the first 3D display, the importance of the ability to hide certain kinds of elements was more common... easy to control for every view in Archicad...🤔

Regarding confusing lines behind your windows, you could just reduced your elevation / section depth in order to not have anything beyond said window(s)?
