But yes, it is an amazing work horse.
And it does get hot too.

Steve wrote:Steve,
My only complaint about my Dell M6600 is that it gets so hot sometimes it will run very slow. In the summer I set it over a tray of ice. This time of year I just put it outside while I make some coffee. I work this poor little thing as hard as it can go all the time. No rest at night either. I put it to work with 1/2 dozen renderings to complete before I get back to work. I set it in the window against the cold glass to keep it cooler. I have not actually seen any smoke yet but where you plug in the battery charger looks a little warped![]()
I have a complete replacement warrantee and I am not afraid to use it.
These Dell Workstations are able to tolerate an amazing amount of abuse.
How old is your Dell and when was the last time the interior of the case was cleaned? I have some hardware guru friends and they always tell me to have it cleaned from dirt and dust every 6 months.
Last week I just took it to a guy who cleaned it up, like the dust that is gathered in the fans, making it harder to blow out hot air.
Before at full GPU use the GPU was 82-84 Celsius. Since cleaning it never goes above 68 Celsius. A big difference. If the case was not cleaned for years the difference can become even greater.
Just one thing to consider.

It is probably dirtier than I think in there.
