A linked Marker can be linked to a Viewpoint but not a View. Which means that when you open the linked Viewpoint using the Marker, the Viewpoint will be activated, but all settings for Layers, Scale, MVO, etc. will stay the same. This is how switching from one Viewpoint to another works.
Only when you switch to or activate a View (which is a captured state of a Viewpoint) will ARCHICAD restore the Layers, Scale, MVO, etc. settings that is stored in the View.
So this command doesn't activate a View, it activates a Viewpoint and this is why it works the way it does.

You could make a wish: ability to link Markers also to Views, not only to Viewpoints (and Drawings placed on Layouts). If such a wish was implemented it would be possible to achieve what you want.

Hey Bobby Hollywood, it's really hard to grab a quote from your thread when you type all the text in your image.

Yes, because that is the current state of the model the Section marker is cutting thru'. If you want the correct MVO and layer combo just use the Navigator View Map. Its just a double click.

uhh...heck YEAH I'd want to make this a wish list item.
Sections and Elevation markers should NOT be dependent on a Viewpoint rather...they should be tied in to a Layercombo and MVO option setting.
It's very cumbersome to have to go to the layouts, then the viewmap to simply switch from plan view to a section view.........Sections and elevations whether they be in a model environment SHOULD be programmed into them their layer combos and MVO's.....just my 2 cents.

understand and hear you loud an clear........it's just a double click off the viewmap. But.....logically and intuitively, any "viewpoint" even in the model environment, should have the ability to switch back to layer comb and MVO setting..........sometimes in projects we have 30 or 50 sections, working sections, working elevation markers, elevation markers...etc... and having to remember or have a road map to have to navigate thru is very cumbersome. It should be as simply as......."if you want to click on a section or elevation marker, whether in the model environment or the viewmaps....it should maintain the same layer combo's and MVO as in a viewmap.......regardless of the model setting.

Yes, I know, thats what quick options are for............but think about it.
How many times does a user work in plan, then want to switch to a section view or elevational view WHILE STILL IN PLAN with all it's current quick options settings at that momment in time, and simply want to "SEE" a section as it came off the layouts.

I think ARCHICAD 19 solves your case with the TABs. You open all the various TABs you wish to use and you can very easily switch from one to the other. A TAB can display a Viewpoint or a View, as needed.
So you can have a Floor Plan View in one TAB and a Section View in another, both with their own settings and it is very easy to switch back and forth between them.

thanks.
I have yet to install AC19. I'm worried it'll bring my laptop to grinding hault.
Eventhough my laptop is 4 years old I had ordered it from Dell with all the 'bells-n-whistles' to be a desktop replacment.
I-7 processors.
lots of RAM
lots of HD space.
etc....

but I have yet to install AC19.

Well, you can open all the various Views the same way in ARCHICAD 18. They will just not be arranged in a TAB bar. You will have to switch from one to the other by selecting them in the Window menu.

Install it! As long as you have enough room on your hard drive it will probably not make any difference in how fast ArchiCAD runs.

http://screencast.com/t/fhApsTIYWYY

I am running at least 1/2 dozen programs much larger than ArchiCAD + many more that are smaller - all at the same time - and on 3 monitors - no problem. And I still have about 40 GB free on the hard drives and 12 GB of RAM left to run them with.

Loading ArchiCAD 19 will probably not slow you up at all. In fact you can probably run 18 and 19 at the same time with out any trouble.

My only complaint about my Dell M6600 is that it gets so hot sometimes it will run very slow. In the summer I set it over a tray of ice. This time of year I just put it outside while I make some coffee. I work this poor little thing as hard as it can go all the time. No rest at night either. I put it to work with 1/2 dozen renderings to complete before I get back to work. I set it in the window against the cold glass to keep it cooler. I have not actually seen any smoke yet but where you plug in the battery charger looks a little warped

I have a complete replacement warrantee and I am not afraid to use it.

These Dell Workstations are able to tolerate an amazing amount of abuse.
